It was one of the most shocking things that he had ever seen. A man named David was riding down an empty road on his motorbike, virtually in the middle of nowhere. He came across a large white and brown dog who looked like a living skeleton.

Every single rib was showing and the poor girl looked completely defeated. It was hard to believe she could even find the strength to stand. But, somehow, she did. This dog knew David was there to help her and she wasn’t going to let her only chance pass her by. She mustered the strength to wag her tail for David, who was immediately captivated.
He had some food and water with him, which he quickly shared with the grateful dog. Because he was on a motorbike, David couldn’t take her with him…but he couldn’t possibly leave her.
Together, they waited over an hour by the side of the road, and finally a caring person drove by. They agreed to transport the dog to the nearest town. The car followed behind David’s motorbike.
At the veterinary clinic, the poor dog seemed to completely shut down. She appeared terrified, defeated, and resigned to more pain and misery. But that was all about to change.

David was already madly in love with the dog, and his partner, Valentina, felt exactly the same way. They named her Sandy, and vowed to do whatever it took to get her well. They made sure she got veterinary care, including treatment for dehydration, malnutrition, open sores, and an expensive and complicated treatment for leishmania.
They were willing to go to the ends of the earth for her, and they promised her that no matter what they would be there for her. David told Sandy that in three months, she would be a whole new dog. And he was right.
Sandy got stronger and stronger, and came home to live with David and Valentina. She was a fighter. Despite the incredibly difficult life she had led after her abandonment, and all her medical troubles, Sandy never quit trying to get better.
While she was at a healthy weight finally, she still couldn’t quite believe that things were really better and that she was finally safe. Sandy sometimes still seemed haunted. She needed to learn how to relax and enjoy being a dog. That’s where a new member of the family came in.

David and Valentina adopted a small puppy, and Sandy immediately found a new best friend and sibling. The two played, napped, and just enjoyed life together.

The couple strongly believe that David was put on that deserted road for a reason. They say it was divine intervention that brought them their furry family. And they couldn’t be more grateful. We are pretty certain that Sandy feels exactly the same way.
