Even the most serious people crack a smile sometimes — including Conservation Officers like Levi Knach.
Of course, it’s a lot easier to smile when you have a furry friend around.
That’s what Levi was about to find out.
Setting the Scene with Levi and Kenobi
Conservation Officer Levi Knach serves Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources. His primary job is to protect Indiana’s state parks, which ranges anywhere from tracking down hikers to finding illegally-foraged foods.
K9 Officer Kenobi is his partner in fighting crime, an experienced ‘pawfessional’ with years of dedicated training. His role is to hunt down people, places, and things to assist his partner in getting the job done right.

“Kenobi is cute, but make no mistake – he is a trained, working officer,” said Indiana State Parks in their Facebook post. “[He] can track people and locate a variety of objects ranging from venison to ginseng.”
Levi and Kenobi have worked on many cases together, busting serious crimes even outside of the natural park.
“A suspect ran over a lady in a parking lot while high on methamphetamine,” ISP’s Facebook manager reported. “A good Samaritan then followed the suspect to Mississinewa Lake, where the suspect ran out of gas and ran into the woods. When Officer Knach and Kenobi arrived, they tracked the suspect about a half mile back into the woods and caught the suspect hiding.”
It’s clear Levi and Kenobi have gone on many missions together, and the pair love and respect each other very much.
So when the moment arose for Officer Kenobi to get close, he couldn’t refrain from showing his affection.
The Most Adorable Photobomb
Levi and Kenobi were preparing for their official staff photos — the photographer wanted to get things just right.
But that didn’t stop Kenobi from stealing the show. He just couldn’t help himself from stealing a couple of kisses.

Despite the disruptive (but adorable) outtakes, Officer Levi couldn’t help but crack a smile. Kenobi was all-too happy to offer affection and rest his snout on his handler’s chin.

Where Are They Now?
Since Kenobi’s adorable photobombing event, Levi and his K9 have continued serving the people of Indiana. The pair have been featured in a book by Ted Arnold entitled “Fly Guy Promotes Police Officers.”

Today, Levi and Kenobi continue to live and work together. When they’re not out fighting crime, they’re speaking at schools and local events. They hope to continue inspiring their community and serving local people with many more years of service.
